Brief Description:

Because of proliferation of the Internet, most projects are taking place in heterogeneous environments where people, information and working processes are distributed. Work is often dynamic and cooperative and involves multiple actors with different kinds of needs. In these settings there is a need to help people coordinate their activities, share documents and information, and manage access to shared resources.

This special session on Cooperative Distributed Information Systems - to be held for the 2nd time as part of the 2003International Symposium on Collaborative Technologies and Systems (CTS'03) - will focus on the area of cooperative and distributed databases, and emerging distributed and mobile object technologies and environments. The aim is to have a dedicated session that fosters closer interactions among researchers and users communities, providing an excellent opportunity for them to meet and discuss their ideas. We invite original contributions from researchers in academia and computer industry on these emerging and important areas of information technology.

Cooperative Databases

- Advanced transaction management

- Concurrency control

- Communication paradigms

- Mobility impact

- Workspace support

- Effective and appropriate interfaces

- Collaborative annotation of temporal media

Cooperative Web Technologies

- Emerging models and standards

- Heterogeneous systems on the web

- Middleware technologies

- Web data integration and wrappers

- Agent-based distributed systems

Instructions for author:

Authors are invited to submit original papers to the special session organizers by September 15, 2002. Electronic (postscript or pdf) submissions are encouraged and should be sent to heri@idi.ntnu.no or mads@idi.ntnu.no. For other electronic formats, please check with the organizers. Papers should not exceed 5000 words. Include up to 5 keywords and an abstract of no more than 250 words. Submissions should also include the title, authors name, affiliation, e-mail address, fax number and postal address. In case of multiple authors, an indication of which author is responsible for correspondence should also be included. For non-electronic submission, please send four copies of the manuscript to one of the special session co-organizers.
