The Mechanical Engineering Technology program was one
of the first to be offered by UD in 1950. It has always been built on a strong foundation
of mechanical design with important emphases in manufacturing and the thermal sciences.
Professor L. Duke Golden guided the program through the early years including the
initiation of the BS degree with a major in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1964.
Continuing development of the program was led by Professors Jesse H. Wilder, Robert L.
Mott, Philip E. Doepker, and David Myszka. In its early years, the program was housed in the
historic St. Joseph Hall. Upon completion of the Eugene W. Kettering Engineering and
Research Building, the program moved along with the other programs in the School of
Engineering. The program maintains its emphasis on mechanical design while constantly
adjusting its curriculum through new elective courses and updating of requirements.
There is a long
standing tradition of the integration of computer aided design and analysis techniques
beginning in 1984 with the installation of major ComputerVision computer aided design
systems in the School of Engineering. Later developments have used Intergraph, SDRC
I-DEAS, and AUTOCAD software. The program is accredited by the Technology Accreditation
Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC of ABET). |
