Prof. Joseph FarrenProf. Joseph Farren

Electronic Engineering Technology Program

Professor Joseph Farren, Department Chairman and Professor. BS, BSEE, MS, MBA, PE. Prof. Farren joined the department in 1966 but has been at UD since 1961. Before becoming a member of the faculty Prof. Farren was an engineer for the UD Research Institute . Besides handling all the administrative work (and listening to all the student complaints) , he teaches courses in Electrical Circuits, Power and Instrumentation. Prof. Farren is an avid fan of UD sports and enjoys fishing, stamp collecting , mushroom hunting and watching cowboy and sci-fi movies .

Full-time experience

  • 1961-1966 Research Engineer, University of Dayton Research Institute.
  • 1966 -Present Faculty member at Electronic Engineering Technology department, University of Dayton.

Part-time experience

  • 1967-1981, Project Manager for Electronic Engineering Technology outside work effort and research. (Primarily U.S. Air Force). Numerous consulting efforts dealing with product development and evaluation for various local firms. 1962-1966 (4 years), Electrical Engineering Department, University of Dayton.
  • Visiting Lecturer in US-AID-NSF India Program in 1967 and 1969. Numerous consulting efforts dealing with product development and evaluation for various local firms.

  • Registered Professional Engineer, State of Ohio No. E-33097.

Principal publications of last five years

  • Contributed 50 pages to 2nd edition of "Electronics, a Self' Teaching Guide" and supervised the re-writing of the second edition for John Wiley Publishers.
